Young Friars struggle with their defensive games

PROVIDENCE — Say what you will about Providence College basketball coach Ed Cooley, but one thing’s for sure. The man often speaks the complete, unvarnished truth.

Such a moment came after the Friars’ 91-79 win over Iona on Saturday. The Friars flashed plenty of offensive power in the game, hanging 48 points on the scoreboard in the first half and scoring both inside and out. The Friars shot 49 percent, hit nine 3-pointers and made 80 percent of their free throws.

All in all a good day, right? Wrong.

Cooley wasn’t happy with the Gaels getting 47 second-half points at his defense.
