PROVIDENCE – It was an ugly, sloppy Big East game at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Saturday afternoon but, in the end, that suited Jay Wright’s youngest Villanova team in years just fine.
The Wildcats struggled to close the game but hung on for a 64-60 victory over the offensively-challenged Providence Friars. ‘Nova (16-3, 6-1) had just one field goal over the final 6:45 but still skated back to Philadelphia happy.
“That’s the Big East this year,” said ‘Nova coach Jay Wright, whose team has won six in a row and 12 of the last 13.
