NEW YORK – The Villanova Wildcats may lack the firepower and experience of their two recent runs to national championships but they still know how to win.
That fact was cemented in a 73-62 Big East Tournament quarterfinal win that ended Providence College’s dream of a sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth Thursday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.
After struggling offensively for long stretches of the contest, the Friars scored just enough to tie the game at 44-44 with 9:18 on the clock. But that’s when Villanova’s winning touch took over.
The Wildcats put together a 15-4 spurt that boosted its lead to 59-48.
