DURHAM, N.H. -- Defenseman Richard Boyd scored his first goal of the season in the first period and Danny Tirone stopped 24 shots as New Hampshire defeated Providence College, 1-0, at the Whittemore Center on Saturday night.
After taking a pass from Ara Nazarian, Boyd fired a long shot that beat a screened Hayden Hawkey (25 saves) in the PC net at 7:12.
Both the ninth-ranked Friars (9-6-1 overall, 6-4-1 in Hockey East) and the No. 13 Wildcats (8-5-1, 4-4-1) went 0 for 5 on the power play.
The Friars host the Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday and Saturday nights.
