BOSTON — It was truly a game for the ages.
Third-ranked Providence College and eighth-ranked UMass Lowell slugged it out for five-plus periods on Friday night in the opener of the Hockey East semifinals at the TD Garden.
Finally, after 112:27 of play, 103 shots on goal and too many great saves to count, Lowell edged PC, 2-1, on a disputed goal by A.J. White in the third overtime.
A pass by Michael Fallon hit White’s skate at the goal mouth and bounced into the Friar net.
