PROVIDENCE – The lineup isn’t anywhere near what Ed Cooley is hoping for in a month or two but the basketball calendar waits for no one.
Cooley’s Providence Friars will host Stonehill College Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) in the team’s only exhibition game. The regular season tipoff comes in a little more than two weeks on Nov. 5 against Sacred Heart.
The Friars opened practice on Sept. 26 and within days center Nate Watson (knee sprain) and new graduate point guard Luwane Pipkins (hamstring) both were injured. Throw in an Achilles injury to freshman Greg Gantt and the Friars have worked short-handed for three weeks.
