PROVIDENCE - The Providence College basketball team was hit by a bolt of awful news during Saturday’s win over Saint Peter’s.
By halftime the players and coaching staff were made aware that the mother of freshman forward Greg Gantt had passed away in North Carolina after a lengthy illness. Gantt had traveled home to Fayetteville, N.C. on Friday to be with his mother, Tawanna Baldwin.
Details for services for Baldwin have yet to be announced so it’s unclear when Gantt, 19, will return to school.
“Greg will be away for awhile dealing with a family matter,” coach Ed Cooley said after the 68-47 win.
