PROVIDENCE - Providence's hope for a second-half resurgence in conference play is off to a rocky start.

The Friars dropped a 91-86 decision to St. John's on Wednesday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center, outlasted by the Red Storm in a wild second half that included 12 lead changes.

Down one with 14 seconds to play, Providence ran a pick and roll with Kyron Cartwright and Emmitt Holt. Cartwright drove to his trademark left hand, but he was denied at the goal by Darien Williams. With Ed Cooley screaming for a foul, the Red Storm were able to save the ball down court and hit their free throws to seal the win.
