PROVIDENCE – Throughout Ed Cooley’s career in college coaching, he’s been fortunate to own a front seat to watch some fabulous point guards.
While an assistant under Al Skinner at Rhode Island in 1997, Cooley saw Tyson Wheeler blossom into a star. In nine seasons as an assistant at Boston College, the Eagles shined with stars like Troy Bell and Tyrese Rice running the show. When Cooley became a head coach at Fairfield, one of his first recruits was Derek Needham. The point guard went on to score over 1,800 points for the Stags.
Cooley has enjoyed the same mix of success in his tenure at Providence College.
