PROVIDENCE — At this stage of a season, statistics don’t lie.
That’s certainly the case with the Providence College men’s soccer team.
The Friars entered Thursday night’s NCAA Division I Tournament first-round game with an 11-3 record when they score first.
Now that record is 12-3, because the Friars blanked the New Jersey Institute of Technology, 2-0.
In addition, the Friars (15-6-0) have won 20 of 21 games in which they’ve outshot opponents, which was the case again — they had a 17-11 advantage in this department.
“I think it’s something that helps if we’re able to open a game [with a goal],” Friars coach Craig Stewart said.
