PHILADELPHIA – The defense rests.
Sparked by a tenacious defense, the Providence Friars grabbed their fifth win over a Top 25 team in February. This time it was a 58-54 win over No. 12 Villanova. The five wins over Top 25 teams are the most for PC since the 1991 season.
Luwane Pipkins led the Friars with 27 points. His effort was huge because no other Friar found much offensive success as the team finished making just 35 percent of its shots.
That didn’t matter. PC’s defense was outstanding as Villanova shot just 33 percent and just 5-of-30 from the 3-point line.
