PC Friars rise to 10th in AP hoop poll; highest since 1978

  • PROVIDENCE - The Providence Friars continue to zoom up the national polls.
    This week's Associated Press Top 25 was released Monday with Providence rising from 14th to 10th. That's the highest the Friars have been ranked in that poll since January, 1978.
    Losses by several top 10 teams including Duke, Kentucky, Iowa State and Villanova were enough for voters to slot the Friars ahead of all those teams. PC is 11-1 with its only defeat coming on a neutral court to the top-ranked team in the country, Michigan State.
    The Friars were ranked 14th in both the AP and USA Today coaches poll last week.
