NEW YORK — These are different times for Ed Cooley and his Providence College Friars.
Accustomed to positioning for the NCAA Tournament at this stage of the last five seasons, Cooley finds his team in a different spot heading into Saturday’s trip to Madison Square Garden and a noon game against St. John’s. Riding a three-game losing streak and a 3-7 Big East record, the Friars are in danger of missing any postseason tourney, let alone the Big Dance.
Cooley addressed his team’s plight after an ugly home loss to Georgetown on Wednesday. He admitted that this is a new challenge for both his players and the coaching staff, and not an easy one.
