PROVIDENCE – The Providence Friars are happy they don’t have to hear about Vermont anymore.
After fretting for weeks and telling anyone who would listen how dangerous the Vermont Catamounts would be in Monday’s season-opening game, Ed Cooley’s Friars dismantled the visitors from the America East in the second half and rolled to an 80-58 victory before 8,310 fans at the Dunk.
“I thought we played a very good basketball team, an experienced team,” Cooley said. “We’ve been talking about Vermont for about eight weeks. I thought it was a great team win.”
With one opponent squarely in his team’s focus, Cooley was thrilled to see the Friars check some keys off the scouting report.
