PC 86 BC 66: Friars run past the Eagles

PROVIDENCE – Over the opening 11 minutes Saturday night, it appeared the annual New England hoop matchup between Providence College and Boston College may own an old Big East look.

The Eagles were matching the hot-shooting Friars step for step, especially when Deontae Hawkins was leading the march. But over time the Friars only grew hotter while the Eagles faded to black.

The result was a 86-66 romp before a healthy crowd of 10,806 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The Friars (5-1) shot a scalding 59 percent from the field and 55 percent (10-of-18) from the 3-point line.
