PROVIDENCE – Maybe it’s the Pink.
For the second straight season the Providence Friars donned some soft uniforms and then took it to one of the Big East’s leading outfits. Last season it was eventual national champion Villanova. This time around it was St. John’s turn.
Providence jumped on the Johnnies early and then let them self-destruct in a 78-59 whitewash. The badly-needed win completes a season-sweep of the Red Storm and marks PC’s fifth in a row and eighth in nine tries against Chris Mullin’s team.
Nate Watson led the Friars with 21 points. Alpha Diallo notched his eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
