PC 77 Washington 70: Friars hold on at Garden

NEW YORK – No one can say that early-season college basketball isn’t exciting.

It also can be a bit sloppy, if not ugly, but grinding wins out is really all that matters and that’s what the Providence Friars did Thursday night at the 2k Classic at Madison Square Garden.

The Friars let seemingly comfortable leads slip away all evening but hung on down the stretch to beat the Washington Huskies, 77-70. PC will play Saint Louis Friday night at 7:30 in the tourney final.

The Friars received help from up and down the lineup.

Rodney Bullock awoke from a two-game slumber and slashed in the lane and swished jumpers to the tune of 16 points.
