NEW YORK – March Madness indeed.
For the second straight day, the Providence Friar needed to work overtime but came out smiling at the Big East Tournament.
The Friars dug themselves a 17-point hole but rallied in the second half to force overtime and then made the key crunch times plays to upset No. 3 Xavier, 75-72.
Rodney Bullock and Alpha Diallo led the Friars with 17 points each. Kyron Cartwright added 15 and Nate Watson came off the bench for 14 big points.
Kerem Kanter led Xavier with 18 points. Star shooter Trevon Bluiett made just two of 14 shots.
