PC 73, Georgetown 69: Friars find a way

PROVIDENCE – This is what Ed Cooley feared.

After watching Georgetown average 83 points in its previous four games and push Top 10 Xavier into overtime in its last road game, the Providence Friar coach knew the Hoyas would bring plenty of firepower into their first matchup of the Big East season Tuesday night.

That certainly was the case but the Friars still somehow found a way to win by putting together a stirring 9-0 run over the final 1:17 to survive with a 73-69 victory. Providence improves to 16-8 overall and 7-4 in the Big East

The Hoyas (13-10, 3-9) are developing into a tough out under first-year coach Patrick Ewing but didn’t register a field goal in the final 4:10.
