NEW YORK – Say what you want about the Providence Friars but they flashed oodles of toughness with their post-season hopes potentially hanging in the balance in Thursday’s Big East quarterfinals.
The Friars gutted out a 72-68 victory over the Bluejays in overtime at Madison Square Garden. They’ll face Xavier in the semifinal game Friday at 6:30 p.m.
PC didn’t shoot very well in the first half but found something in the second to put the clamps on the Creighton and rally to the win. The game wasn’t decided until the Bluejay freshman Mitch Ballock missed a wide open 3-pointer with three seconds left that could have tied the game.
