AUSTIN, Tex. – There’s nothing like a good road win to bring some smiles on Christmas morning.
The Providence Friars and their fans will be smiling for several days after Ed Cooley’s group hit the road and upset the Texas Longhorns, 71-65, at the Erwin Center.
Alpha Diallo led the Friars with 20 points, including four clutch free throws in the final 22 seconds. Isaiah Jackson added 12 points but the real story was PC’s defense. Texas shot the ball poorly from the field (37 percent), the 3-point line (6-of-24) and missed 10 free throws.
The Friars held a tenuous lead throughout the second half that shrunk to 64-62 with 2:09 to play.
