PROVIDENCE – Defense trumps offense, or at least it did in spades for the Providence College Friars Saturday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.
The Friars continued their offensive struggles but put the collar on the Red Storm and rolled to a 70-56 win. The Red Storm managed only one field goal in the final 5:56 and the Friars snapped a three-game losing streak.
Nate Watson led a balanced Friar scoring attack with 18 points, including 8-of-10 free throws. Isaiah Jackson netted 12, including a back-breaking 3-point shot with three minutes to play. PC improves to 14-10 overall and 4-7 in the Big East.
