PC 4, UMass Lowell 2: Fast start helps Friars get past River Hawks

    PROVIDENCE — Defenseman Jake Walman scored a power-play goal and added an assist and Nick Ellis made 33 saves as Providence College defeated UMass Lowell, 4-2, at Schneider Arena on Friday night.
    The third-ranked Friars raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first 22:20 and then held off the River Hawks, who are ranked eighth and ninth in the two national polls and finished the night in a tie for first place in Hockey East with Boston College.
    The Friars improved to 16-3-4, 7-1-3 in Hockey East.
