PC 4, UMass 1: Tanev scores twice, Mingoia nets winner for Friars




  • AMHERST, Mass. -- Brandon Tanev scored twice, Nick Saracino had a goal and an assist and Nick Ellis made 23 saves scored as fifth-ranked Providence College beat UMass, 4-1, on Friday night.
    With the win, the Friars are 24-5-4 overall, 15-3-3 and in second place in Hockey East. UMass is 8-21-4, 2-15-4.
    Saracino opened the scoring with a power play goal at 6:10 of the second period. Mark Jankowski and John Gilmour assisted on Saracino's 10th goal of the season.
    With Tanev in the penalty box for interference, Trevor Mingoia scored a shorthanded goal to give the Friars a 2-0 lead.
