HARTFORD, Conn. - The Providence College men's hockey team won its eighth straight game and moved into third place in Hockey East with a 4-1 victory over UConn on Wednesday night before 4,040 fans at the XL Center.
Vimal Sukumaran scored twice for Providence (17-8-4, 9-6-2) and Hayden Hawkey made 21 saves for the win. The two teams play again on Friday night at Schneider Arena.
Providence wasted no time taking a 1-0 lead as the Friars scored 27 seconds into the contest. Brian Pinho redirected a Jake Walman shot from the top of the crease past UConn goalie Adam Huska for his eighth goal of the season.
