PROVIDENCE — Turning defense into offense, No. 14 Providence College scored shorthanded goals 2:41 apart in the first period and defeated No. 8 Northeastern, 4-1, on Friday night at Schneider Arena.
The victory broke a three-game Hockey East losing streak for the Friars, who ramped their game up considerably after a hideous loss at Boston College last Saturday. PC outshot Northeastern, 38-20, including 16-1 in the second period.
Jason O’Neill led the Friars with a goal and an assist. Jacob Bryson, Kasper Bjorkqvist and Greg Printz (empty net) scored the other PC goals. Spenser Young had two assists.
