PROVIDENCE – It was downright ugly at times, especially in the third period, but Providence College escaped with a 4-3 win over Miami University in the regular-season opener on Friday night at Schneider Arena.
A third-period shorthanded goal by PC’s Brian Pinho was the difference. He beat RedHawks’ goalie Ryan Larkin (28 saves) to a loose puck and fired it into the vacant net with 6:07 to go.
Penalties were a problem for the Friars as they surrendered three power play goals.
Referees Jamie Koharski and Kevin Shea whistled a total of 25 minor penalties, 13 on PC and 12 on Miami.
