BOSTON — Hayden Hawkey made 34 saves for his fifth shutout of the season as 14th-ranked Providence College completed a weekend sweep of No. 8 Northeastern with a 3-0 victory on Saturday night at Matthews Arena.
Hawkey is now tied with Jon Gillies for the program record of 13 career shutouts. Hawkey was at his best in the first 40 minutes, making 12 saves in the first period and 14 in the second.
Providence scored a goal in each period, including Tyce Thompson’s power-play goal — his fourth of the season — at 11:57 of the first period that gave the Friars a 1-0 lead.
