PROVIDENCE — It wasn’t pretty, but Providence College did what it needed to do on Friday night at Schneider Arena.
The fourth-ranked Friars edged underdog Merrimack, 3-1, in a taut, grinding contest that wasn’t settled until Erik Foley scored the go-ahead goal for PC with just under seven minutes to go. Trevor Mingoia salted away the win with an empty-net goal with 63 seconds left.
