PC 3, Maine 0: Tait, Hawkey lift Friars hockey squad into title game

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — Ryan Tait scored two goals and Hayden Hawkey stopped 24 shots as Providence College defeated Maine, 3-0, on Friday night in the semifinals of the Friendship Four Tournament.

The Friars (8-4-1, 5-3-1 Hockey East) advanced to the championship game against No. 5 Clarkson on Saturday at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

After a scoreless first half of the game, Tait gave the Friars the lead with his second goal of the season at 15:12 of the second period. Bryan Lemos dug the puck out from behind the net and tried a wraparound shot. It was stopped by Maine goalie Jeremy Swayman but the rebound when to Tait, who fired it into a wide-open side of the net.
