ORONO, Maine — Providence goalie Hayden Hawkey made 28 saves to become the program’s all-time leader in shutouts with 14 as the 11th-ranked Friars skated to a 1-0 victory over Maine in front of 3,737 fans on Friday night.
With the win, Hawkey also tied the Friars’ all-time record for wins with 64. Hawkey was solid in the opening period with 12 saves, then stood tall in the final 20 minutes where he turned aside 13 shots, including three in the final 20 seconds.
The only goal of the game came at 5:10 of the second period when Providence senior Bryan Lemos scored off a wrist shot from the slot that beat Maine goalie Jeremy Swayman.
