PROVIDENCE -- Tyce Thompson scored the only goal and Hayden Hawkey made it stand up with 21 saves as Providence College defeated Lowell, 1-0, on Saturday night at Schneider Arena.
The win gave the Friars (18-9-5 overall, 11-7-2 Hockey East) a sweep of their weekend series against the Riverhawks (17-10-2, 11-6-2) and pulled PC into a tie with Lowell for second place in the Hockey East standings.
Thompson, a freshman, fired a rebound past Lowell goalie Christoffer Hernberg (28 saves) with 4:04 left in the second period for his fourth goal of the season. Mike Callahan and Scott Conway were credited with assists.
