Notre Dame 5, PC 2: Friars ousted in Hockey East quarterfinals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Providence College fell to Notre Dame, 5-2, on Saturday night and was eliminated from the quarterfinals of the Hockey East playoffs.

Brian Pinho scored both goals for PC in the loss. The Irish's Cam Morrison, Jordan Gross, Bobby Nardella and Dylan Malmquist all scored, with Malmquist chipping in two empty-net goals in the final 1:05.

After a scoreless first period, the Friars (22-11-5) took the lead at the 10:48 mark of the second when Pinho deflected a shot past Cal Petersen to make it 1-0.

Notre Dame (21-10-5) responded on its next power play, as Morrison netted his ninth goal of the season.
