SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Providence College was routed by Notre Dame, 5-0, in the opening game of their best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series on Friday night.
Cal Petersen stopped all 43 Friar shots. Jack Jenkins, Jordan Gross and Jake Evans paced the Fighting Irish offense with a goal and an assist each. Bo Brauer had two assists.
Gross opened the scoring at 9:31 of the first period. Notre Dame outshot the Friars, 12-9, in the first.
In the second period, Notre Dame scored three times on nine shots. Petersen made 17 saves in the period.Jenkins put Notre Dame ahead, 2-0 with a goal at 4:24.
