Northeastern 5, Providence 4: Friars remain winless in Hockey East

BOSTON — The 19th-ranked Providence College men’s hockey team’s third-period rally fell short in a 5-4 setback against Northeastern on Friday night at Matthews Arena.

The Friars fell to 3-4-2 overall and 0-2-1 in Hockey East play, while the Huskies improve to 4-4-4 (1-3-2).

Hayden Hawkey, making his ninth straight start, stopped 29 shots for the Friars.

The game was scoreless through the first half of the game before the Huskies exploded for three goals in the final 10 minutes of the second period.

Goals by Jeremy Davies, Patrick Schule and a power-play score by Zach Aston-Reese staked Northeastern to a 3-0 lead.
