The annual matchup of the Providence College and University of Rhode Island men’s basketball teams won’t take place this season, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a joint statement released Monday morning, PC Athletics Director Bob Driscoll and URI Athletics Thorr Bjorn announced the cancellation of the annual nonconference matchup because of the pandemic, as well as conflicts it has created with league scheduling requirements. The two teams could not find a suitable scheduling date.
“We understand that the fans throughout Rhode Island enjoy our annual matchup with URI,” Driscoll stated. “Unfortunately, the circumstances this season made it too difficult to schedule the game.
