PROVIDENCE – Nothing about it was easy, but 10th-ranked Providence College escaped with a 2-1 overtime win over Massachusetts on Saturday night at Schneider Arena.
Sophomore Garrett Gamez scored his second goal of the game for the winner at 2:16 of OT.
Stationed in the slot, Gamez deflected Jake Walman's shot past UMass goalie Ryan Wischow (40 saves). Brian Pinho was credited with the second assist.
With the win, PC finished in fifth place in Hockey East, just two points behind co-champions Boston College, Lowell and Boston University and one point behind Notre Dame.
