PROVIDENCE — Fourth-ranked Providence College threw everything it had at University of New Hampshire sophomore goalie Danny Tirone in the third period on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough.
Tirone stopped 31 shots — 16 in the final 20 minutes — and Kyle Smith scored twice as New Hampshire broke a seven-game losing streak by beating the Friars, 3-1, at Schneider Arena.
“We had a lot of good looks tonight, but we couldn't get one past Tirone. We got out-goaltended,’’ said PC coach Nate Leaman.
