Mark Divver: Where Friars, Bears stand at the midway point

Providence College and Brown University have wrapped up their first semester schedules and won’t play again until Dec. 29, when they travel 180 miles north to face off against each other in the Ledyard Classic at Dartmouth College.

This is a good time to take a look at where they’ve been and what’s ahead.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE

At 9-4-3 overall, the 10th-ranked Friars are in solid position for a sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. In Hockey East, PC is 6-2-1 and tied for third with Northeastern.

The Friars’ losses are against top-quality opponents: Second-ranked UMass (twice), sixth-ranked Notre Dame and eighth-ranked Denver.
