Jay O’Brien isn’t the highest-profile player Nate Leaman and his staff have landed at Providence College, but he’s moving up the list in a hurry.
With NHL scouts keeping close tabs, the two-way center from Hingham, Mass., and Thayer Academy wrapped up his fall U-18 season over the weekend by helping the Cape Cod Whalers to the Massachusetts Tier I championship.
Now it’s on to the prep school season – Thayer held its first practice on Thursday – where O’Brien is expected to put up big numbers for a strong, senior-laden team.
