ANAHEIM, Cal. – Now that one hurts.
The Providence Friars let a 17-point lead slip away in the first round of the Wooden Legacy as a controversial foul call with three seconds left opened the door for Michael Carter to make three free throws and allow Long Beach State to rally and pull off a stunning 66-65 win at Anaheim Arena.
The Friars will play Wake Forest or the College of Charleston on Friday.
PC controlled the game before folding late as 21 turnovers came back to haunt Ed Cooley’s team.
“You all saw the game, it wasn’t one of our better finishes,” Cooley said.
