PROVIDENCE — There were no tears. Not publicly at least. As the Providence women’s basketball team walked off the court at Alumni Hall toward its locker room, you could see the disappointment in the players faces even with crowd giving them a standing applause.
The locker room was a different story. You don’t cry finishing off a losing season. You cry when it matters.
Tuesday mattered to the Friars. It was the Round of 16 in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament, it was Georgetown and it was a winnable game. It was classic Big East basketball. Baskets were earned, not given, and in the end Georgetown made more when it counted.
