Friars return to campus, roll past Houston Baptist, 84-55

PROVIDENCE – A flash back to yesteryear was an enjoyable one for the Providence Friars on Friday night.

Playing a regular season basketball game on campus for the first time in 45 years, the Friars jumped on the Huskies from Houston Baptist early and never let up in a 84-55 victory in their season opener. The game was played at Alumni Hall’s Mullaney Gym because of the weekend-long ComicCon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The Friars started slowly with their outside shooting and hit just four of their opening 12 shots. That kept things tied at 11-11 but a few substitutions by coach Ed Cooley shook things up.
