Friars made big strides but going home after painful defeat

DAYTON, Ohio – In the end, the Providence Friars were good enough to make the NCAA Tournament but for the fourth straight season not ready for Prime Time.

Unlike losses in three previous trips to the NCAA Tournament, this latest one stings. Instead of getting beat up by Dayton or out-classed by North Carolina, this time the Friars didn't show the requisite toughness needed to win big games in March.

First came a turnover-filled meltdown in a 70-58 loss to Creighton in the Big East Tournament. That disappointment was mild compared to what unfolded Wednesday at the First Four in Dayton.
