Friars Journal: Walk-on Planek sparks turnaround

PROVIDENCE — At first glance, Tom Planek’s final line on Sunday wasn’t all that impressive.

Providence College’s senior forward didn’t score in five minutes. The Illinois native didn’t attempt a shot or grab a rebound. He was credited with just one steal.

Where Planek’s real contribution came was in the plus-minus column. The Friars outscored Stony Brook by six points with the former walk-on and current MBA candidate in the lineup, a critical stretch as the Friars scraped past Stony Brook, 62-60, at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

The 6-foot-7 Planek was at the head of a full-court press that forced the Seawolves to come unglued.
