PROVIDENCE — While there is a notable absence of victories, the success Ed Cooley and the Friars have enjoyed over the last seven seasons is something to crow about.
The Friars played in their seventh consecutive postseason event on Tuesday night in the National Invitation Tournament. The seven straight postseason tourneys are the third-best run in program history. Only the historic streaks of nine (1959-67) and eight (1971-78) are longer.
Cooley would have loved to continue the team’s five-year run of NCAA Tournaments but he now has bookended those with NIT berths. The seven postseason teams in eight years is certainly something he’ll sell on the recruiting trail.
