Experienced Catamounts will be a tough test for young Friars

PROVIDENCE — Brian Blaney is doing too good a job in his role as chief scheduler for the Providence College Friars.

Blaney is the assistant coach in charge of lining up non-conference opponents and, more importantly, projecting just who may be good several months in advance. He's apparently hit the jackpot with Monday's season opener, much to Ed Cooley's dismay.

The Friars will tip off the 2016-17 season against a Vermont team that fits all of Blaney's prerequisites. The Catamounts won 23 games a year ago, return four starters and are predicted to once again battle for a championship in America East.
