Cornell 2, PC 1: Big Red snaps Friars 19-game unbeaten streak
ESTERO, Fla. — The top-ranked Providence College men's hockey team had its 19-game unbeaten streak snapped on Monday afternoon as the Friars fell to ninth-ranked Cornell in overtime, 2-1, in the Florida College Hockey Classic at Germain Arena.
The Friars, who entered the game as the only unbeaten team in the nation and ranked No. 1 for six straight weeks, will play Boston College/Ohio State in the consolation game on Tuesday at 4:05 p.m.
Cornell's Jeff Kubiak netted the game-winner with 2:04 left in overtime. Anthony Angello's back-hander was kicked away by Providence goalie Nick Ellis but Kubiak picked up the rebound in the slot and converted the goal into the wide side of the net.
