Canadian big man Kalif Young commits to Providence

  • Providence’s late surge on the recruiting trail continued Wednesday, with the Friars securing yet another spring pledge for their Class of 2016.
Canadian big man Kalif Young announced his commitment to Providence on his personal Twitter page, a decision that came just days after an official visit coinciding with the school’s commencement ceremonies this weekend. Young selected the Friars over Big East rival Marquette and also claimed offers from Vanderbilt and Pittsburgh among others.
Young has great college size at 6-foot-9 and weighs upwards of 240 pounds. The lefthander shows the ability to make midrange jumpers and can get to the rim on one-dribble drives in isolation sets.
