BOSTON – With a 2-0 win over Providence College at the TD Garden on Saturday night, Boston University won the Hockey East Tournament championship and earned itself an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Friars and Terriers went toe to toe for just over 40 scoreless, hard-hitting minutes before BU’s Drew Melanson scored the only goal of the game, firing a wrist shot past PC goalie Hayden Hawkey from the bottom of the faceoff circle just 56 seconds into the third period.
